I am 29 years old and have been squirelling away savings here and there. I am also auto enrolled in the NEST scheme, but i'm worried this is just an excude to replace the state pension at some point in the future. Is this likely?

With the auto enrollment schemes still in their infancy, I dont see this beeing an issue for some time as most people who will be retiring soon without seperate pension savings will still need the state pension. As for you and I, its hard to say - the support should still be in-place to those who need it but whether it will still exist in its current format, I couldn't speculate.
